On 1 September 2021, Katter’s Australia Party MP Mr Robbie Katter, introduced the Working with Children (Indigenous Communities) Amendment Bill 2021 (the Bill) and referred it to the Legal Affairs and Safety Committee (the committee) for detailed consideration.
The objectives of the Bill are to provide a new Blue Card framework that aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to make decisions which best serve their interests in relation to child protection and employment of community members.
In our submission, QATSICPP outlines our in-principal support for the Bill, whilst highlighting the need for significant work and consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across the state to ensure that there is meaningful reform of the Blue Card system.
