The Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) acknowledges the recent announcement of a Commission of Inquiry into Queensland’s child safety system and thank The Hon Amanda Camm, Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, for her leadership and commitment to system reform alongside The Hon David Crisafulli, Premier of Queensland.
As Queensland’s Peak Body for Youth Justice and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection, we hold a unique and integral role in driving reform across two deeply interconnected systems. QATSICPP understands the importance of safeguarding children and remain committed to walking alongside the Queensland Government, communities and sector throughout the Inquiry. With over 15 years of evidence-based knowledge and research we are well placed to work alongside this Inquiry to safeguard positive futures for Queensland children and families.
QATSICPP welcomes the opportunity to work with Commissioner Paul Anastassiou KC, lending our understanding of Queensland’s child protection and youth justice landscapes to strengthen the Inquiry process.
In collaboration with the child protection and youth justice sectors in Queensland, QATSICPP is ready for a shared pathway forward that will achieve our collective vision: ensuring all children grow up physically, mentally and emotionally safe and strong.
Executive Chair Elizabeth Adams says,“At QATSICPP we know that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children have better outcomes when they are supported to grow up strong in family and culture. QATSICPP continues to lead reform that enables children to be cared for safely by family”.
