QATSICPP facilitates first My Family, Our Decisions, Our Way Community of Practice for 2023
On 31 January and 1 February QATSICPP facilitated the first My Family, Our Decisions, Our Way Community of Practice (COP) for 2023 in Cairns, North Queensland.
This is a monthly forum with the community-controlled organisations Kurbingui, Goolburri, ATSICHS Brisbane & Wuchopperen responsible for delivering the family led decision making process for young people at-risk or have entered the youth justice system. We come together to reflect on practice, learn together and from each other, and discuss what is needed to continually deliver the best services to First Nations children, young people and families.
We were delighted to have join us Pree Sharma and Julie Kefford from ATSILS, who provided an education session about the rights of children when in contact with police and courts. This generated lengthy discussions and created an opportunity for CCOs to learn, to then help education the families, children and young people we work with.
“I think the conversations had over the two days have generated that fire once again amongst the services to come together and really help create a meaningful service for our families”. My Family, Our Decisions, Our Way COP Participant
My Family, Our Decisions, Our Way is a process where authority is given to the young person and their families to work together to solve challenges and lead discussions that affect their lives. It is grounded in the belief and values that wisdom and knowledge sit with families. QATSICPP looks forward to supporting community-controlled organisations in developing solid practice, solid evidence, and solid stories about the impact of My Family, Our Decisions, Our Way for our mob.
