QATSICPP Practice Standards Workshop – Mount Isa
QATSICPP continues to support our members by delivering the QATSICPP Practice Standards workshops.
On Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 June 2022, Program Officer Arnold Simpson attended Kalkadoon Country in Mount Isa to facilitate a QATSICPP Practice Standards workshop with 17 staff members from community-controlled member organisations AIDRWA and Gidgee Healing. The participants provide Family Participation Program, Men’s program, Family Wellbeing Service and Women’s shelter services to the community and surrounding areas.
All participants took this opportunity to reflect on how they felt the key principles outlined in the Practice Standards are being applied in their respective roles and identified opportunities for improvement, including a greater commitment to working in partnership with stakeholders and responding to the needs of individuals and families who request their support. Arnold expressed that QATSICPP’s commitment to providing ongoing support, guidance and advocacy for community-controlled organisations is paramount. Particularly to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families in their community.
The tangible passion and commitment of the local staff, who were willing to share their stories and perspectives, was powerful. It highlights their dedication to supporting the needs of their communities within their services’ catchment areas. Thank you to the AIDRWA and Gidgee Healing teams, which made Arnold feel immediately welcomed and safe. Arnold reflects how humbled he was by this experience, which allowed him to share how the Practice Standards could be applied to support children and families.
As part of QATSICPP’s continued commitment and partnership with AIDRWA and Gidgee, regular return visits to Kalkadoon Country will be scheduled later this year. Arnold will catch up with staff unable to attend the training this time during his next visit to the community, and looks forward to working closely with each organisation.
