The purpose of this position statement is to restate the importance of Aboriginal children and young people being raised by family in community and to set out the changes needed in legislation, policy, programs, processes and practice to realise a new approach to Aboriginal Kinship Care in Queensland. The position statement uses the format of Understanding and applying the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle: A resource for legislation, policy and program development (SNAICC, 2017) which provides the definition of the Child Placement Principle and its aims.
