Yesterday QATSICPP met with the Queensland Government Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support, alongside the Queensland Council of Social Services (QCOSS) and the Youth Advocacy Centre (YAC), to discuss the recent changes to Youth Justice funded organisations’ contractual requirements regarding media engagement and contact.
We acknowledge and respect the concerns raised by our sector and members about these new media clauses. We thank the Department for engaging in genuine dialogue with us over the last week, and for their commitment made today in reviewing these clauses over the next fortnight in consultation with us and the sector.
At the heart of this work are the rights, privacy, and safety of children and young people. Our member organisations and funded services work tirelessly every day to ensure young people are supported to thrive, while also contributing to open, transparent, and respectful public discussion.
We thank QCOSS and YAC for their strong advocacy, and the Department for demonstrating a strong willingness to listen and work together on this important issue.
