Services guiding principles - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled agencies are best placed to provide culturally appropriate child protection services that are accepted by local communities.
- A range of services are required to promote the safety and well being of children and young people, and to support parents, families and communities in protecting and caring for their children and young people.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies providing child and family services must be supported and sufficiently resourced to meet the needs of children, young people and their families.
- Services need to be developed in the broader context of holistic, multifaceted approaches that heal all sections of the community and address underlying causes of social and economic disadvantage.
